Thurrock Garden Centre is a family-run business which opened 40 years ago. In this time, it has grown into what it is today and still ever expanding.
The family are extremely proud of what has evolved into a very enjoyable and inspirational place to shop. This could not have happened without the dedication and welcoming faces of our team. The team, from assistants to senior management, are all part of the Garden Centre family, which we take immense pride in. In return, we ask each team member to be friendly, well-presented and enthusiastic, offering outstanding customer service to every customer.
40 years in the making...
The 1970's celebrity, television gardener, Percy Thrower, opened our Garden Centre on 10th March 1979. The Major of Thurrock at the time, Arthur Barnes, planted a tree which followed the opening by Percy Thrower who then did a 'question & answer' session for customers. Known then as South Ockendon Garden Centre because of it's location, trading commenced in November 1978 with the first manageress, Margaret Reid & manager, Ian Pate.
